Bye Bye MMS

The MMS service will be switched off on 17 March 2024.

MMS service will be switched off

On 17 March 2024, TalkTalk's MMS service will be discontinued - so you will no longer be able to send MMS. This is due to the decision of Sunrise, on whose network the TalkTalk subscriptions are based.

What does that mean to you?

From 17 March 2024, you will no longer be able to send MMS. But don't worry, you can still send pictures, videos, voice messages or MP3 files via various messenger apps or services. Of course, you can also continue to send text messages.

What do I do now if I have been using the MMS service regularly?

Nowadays, photos, videos and audio messages are mostly sent via messenger apps and services. Below you will find the most popular messenger apps and services in Switzerland that you can download from the Apple Store or Google Play Store:

WhatsApp
Threema
Signal
Telegram

Alternatively, you can send pictures and videos via iMessage (Apple device to another Apple device) or via Message+ (Android device to another Android device).

Why is Sunrise discontinuing the MMS service?

Since the introduction of smartphones and messenger apps, the use of MMS has steadily declined. Nowadays, photos, videos and audio messages are mainly sent via these apps and services. Due to the large number of alternatives to MMS, Sunrise has decided to discontinue the service.

Will the SMS service also be discontinued?

No, the SMS service will remain active in the long term.
